Official urges opposition to external interference
Wang Huning, a senior Chinese leader, called on Thursday for efforts to oppose "Taiwan independence" and external interference, and unite Taiwan compatriots to promote national rejuvenation.
Wang, who is a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remark in Beijing while taking part in discussions with the Taiwan delegation at the first session of the 14th National People's Congress, the nation's top legislature.
Regarding the Taiwan question, he underlined the need to adhere to the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, unswervingly strive for the prospect of peaceful reunification, and enhance exchanges, cooperation and integrated development across the Taiwan Straits.
