THE HAGUE -- Ethiopian athletes Tsegaye Getachew and Yalemzerf Yehualaw won the Amsterdam Marathon for men and women events respectively on Sunday.
Getachew secured his second Amsterdam Marathon victory with a time of 2:05:38. Despite a near-mishap where he almost took a wrong turn just before entering the Olympic Stadium, he quickly made up for his mistake. Close behind him were fellow Ethiopian Boki Asefa, who finished in second place with a time of 2:05:40, and Israel's Maru Teferi, who came in third at 2:05:42.
In the women's race, favorite Yalemzerf Yehualaw set a new course record, winning in 2:16:52. Fellow Ethiopian Haven Hailu followed in second place with a personal best of 2:19:29, while Kenya's Winfridah Moseti took third.
