New computer worm detected in China

A new worm virus that began spreading over the Internet on Monday has been
detected by Chinese security authorities.
The worm, titled "WORM MSBlastA" and able to propagate itself on-line, is
spreading quickly and widely, said China's Information Security Supervision
Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security on Tuesday
Computers infected by the worm would not operate Word, Excel and Powerpoint
programs normally and may restart themselves constantly.
The National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center confirmedthe worm
spreads by a recognized loophole in the Microsoft operating system called the
RPC DCOM.
To prevent the worm from spreading, the bureau urged users to download the
patch program from the website of Microsoft.
Major software developers also have upgraded programs for killing this virus.
