agree with you that chen shuibian is a very crafty politician, who knows how to garner votes through vehement instigation that mainland's missiles and submarines will hurt Taiwan people, pretty soon. however, this guy is not crafty at all at managing Taiwan's economy.
you might know the fact, nearly all visionary Taiwan businessmen have already moved to shanghai and elsewhere in the mainland, and investment up to US$200 billion, some already moved out their Taiwan headquarters to the mainland. reason is simple, Taiwan is shrinking, compared with the vast potential of the mainland's market size, and growth rate.
(so, in this sense, the components formerly provided from Taiwan firms could be now provided in chinese mainland, say shanghai, guangzhou, or other countries, say indonesia, korea. this world is very globalized. U. S multinational companies know it dearly! economic competition, though invisilbe, but is fierce, and mainland will win, provided here remains stable, and the leaders always tender to good ideals, from home or abroad...)
some Taiwanese will move to american and canada? yes. that's inevitable, because america and other countries are free countries, (though your airports now take head photos and prints of entrants). Look at the welcome arms of the Statue of Liberty at the harbor of Huddson Gulf....people with huge money fleeing Taiwan? that's their choice, and they will contribute to u.s. economy, will they?
yes, according to some Taiwan local opinion polls, we mainlanders know there are at least one third of Taiwan people, under the influence of Lee tunhui and now chen shuibian government, who do not want to reunite with mainland (some of them do not want immediate reunion till mainland is well-off and have more freedom) . i said in my above post, we mainalnd chinese could wait, 20-30 years. our missiles are a dangling threat on the head of Chen shuibian and his likes, who might got heated head and do wrong thing.
very glad we all agree that there is only one China is this world. thank you very much for that.
