New substation boosts green power supply to Xiong'an
A key substation recently began operation in Xiong'an New Area, Hebei province, marking a huge step toward the area's goal of 100 percent green electricity, according to a report by Xinhua News Agency on Sunday.
The 500-kilovolt substation, a national key project during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25) with an investment of over 600 million yuan ($85 million), is a crucial hub for transmitting clean energy. It is expected to improve the local power grid structure and ensure a more stable electricity supply.
"The substation links the 1,000-kV ultra-high voltage station in neighboring Baoding to the west and extends directly into the core area of Xiong'an via two-way cable lines," Liang Lihui, director of the substation operation and maintenance center at the State Grid's Hebei ultra-high voltage company, was quoted as saying.
"It will deliver solar power from the Inner Mongolia autonomous region and wind energy from Zhangbei county in Zhangjiakou to households," Liang said.
This is the second newly built 500-kV substation in Xiong'an. So far, the area has 17 smart substations of various voltage levels. Working in coordination, they channel clean wind power from the north to light up the city, enhancing power reliability and supporting the area's large-scale construction with a robust green energy supply, the report said.
